Recently, PowerChina Municipal East Africa Company signed the design and construction project contract of Kidunda Dam in Tanzania. The project is located in Morogoro Province, Tanzania, on the Lufu River, about 200 kilometers from the economic capital of Dares Salam. It is the largest single contract awarded by the company in Tanzania. The project is owned by Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Drainage Authority and funded by government funds. The contract period is 36 months with a 12-month warranty period.

The reservoir area has a storage capacity of 190 million square meters. The main works include the construction of a concrete rockfill dam 870 meters long and 21 meters high, the installation of 20 megawatt-hour hydro-generating units, the construction of 101 kilometers of power transmission lines, the construction of 75 kilometers of approach roads, and the construction of spillway, inspection corridor and other ancillary facilities.

As a national key project of Tanzania, the completion of the project will greatly alleviate the water shortage problem of Lufu River, the main water source of Dar es Salaam, in the dry season, enhance the upstream regulation and storage capacity of the basin, reduce the flood control pressure of the downstream, basically solve the water problems plaguing Dar es Salaam, and increase the water supply security capacity of Dar es Salaam. As a hydropower project, the successful signing of this project has further increased the share and participation of Power Construction Municipal East Africa in the clean energy market in East Africa.
