In 2021, the National Development and Reform Commission made it clear to accelerate the construction of pumped storage. Recently, China South-North Water Diversion Group New Energy Investment Co., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as New Energy Investment Co., LTD.) signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Hongdong County People's Government on the pumped storage energy project of Hongdong County Scenery Water Storage Integrated Green Energy Base in Linfen City, Shanxi Province.

It is reported that Hongdong County pumped storage power station is located in Hongdong County, Linfen City, Shanxi Province. The initial pseudo-normal storage level of the upper reservoir is 1210 meters, and the natural regulated storage capacity is about 9.05 million cubic meters. The initial pseudo-normal storage level of the lower water mouth is 910 meters, and the natural regulated storage capacity is about 10.47 million cubic meters. It is planned to install four 300MW units with a total installed capacity of 1200 MW. The total static investment of the project is about 7.788 billion yuan. At the same time, 1,000 megawatts of wind and photovoltaic power will be built in batches according to the construction time sequence of pumped storage projects, and a green energy base with integrated wind and water storage will be built.
