The pumped storage project will further promote the realization of the dual-carbon goal. On November 10, 2022, the first approved pumped storage project in western Hubei -- the Changyang Qingjiang Pumped storage Project of Hubei Energy under the Three Gorges Corporation and its supporting works officially started.

Changyang Qingjiang pumped storage project has a total investment of 8.869 billion yuan and designed installed capacity of 1.2 million kW. The project is a key implementation project of the "14th Five-Year Plan" for the Medium and Long Term Pumped Storage Development Plan (2021-2035) of the National Energy Administration, as well as a key construction project of the "14th Five-Year Plan for Energy Development of Hubei Province". Upon completion, the project will undertake tasks such as peak regulation, valley filling, frequency modulation, phase modulation, energy storage and emergency backup for Hubei's electric power system, with an estimated annual output of 1.23 billion KWH.

Located in Hualinsi Town, Yuan 'an County, Yichang City, Hubei Province, on November 10, the Three Gorges Construction Corporation (TGC) began construction of the Yuan 'an Pumped Storage Power Station in Hubei Province. The power station is a key project of the "14th Five-Year Plan" of the National Medium - and Long-Term Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035) and a key construction project of the "14th Five-Year Plan for Hubei Province's Energy Development". It is mainly composed of the upper reservoir, water transmission system, plant power generation system, lower reservoir and other buildings. It is planned to install four single-stage mixed-flow reversible pump turbine units with a single capacity of 300,000 kW, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 million kW.
