On November 11, 2022, Hubei Wufeng Taiping pumped Storage Power Station was officially approved by Hubei Provincial Development and Reform Commission. It is reported that the project is the first pumped storage power station project invested by the third Bureau of China Construction.

According to reports, Hubei Wufeng Taiping pumped storage Power Station project is located in Wufeng Tujia Autonomous County, Yichang City, Hubei Province, with a total investment of 15.023 billion yuan, a total installed capacity of 2.4 million kilowatts, rated head 696 meters, is one of the largest approved installed capacity of pumped storage power stations in China since the 145th Five-Year Plan.

It is planned to install six single-stage mixed-flow reversible pump turbine units with a capacity of 400,000 kW, with a total installed capacity of 2.4 million kW. With a rated head of 696 meters and a maximum head of 747 meters, it is another 700-meter pumped storage power station in China after Changlongshan and Tiantai.

After all the units are put into operation, the new energy abandoned power can be reduced by 1.709 billion KWH per year on average, and the total coal consumption of the system can be saved by 727,000 tons, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.956 million tons. It will play an important role in improving the power quality of Hubei Province and maintaining the stable operation of the power grid, and is of great significance for promoting local economic development.
