On November 20, 2022, Gongshang Pumped Storage Power Station of Linzhou, Henan Province, a key implementation project of the 14th Five-Year pumped storage project of the National Energy Administration, held a groundbreaking ceremony at the construction site of Hejian Town, Linzhou City.

According to the introduction, Linzhou Gongshang pumped storage power station is located in Hejian Town, Linzhou City, Anyang City, Henan Province, by the Central South Institute to undertake the whole stage of the survey and design work. The total installed capacity is 1.2 million kW. Four single-stage mixed-flow reversible units with a single capacity of 300 thousand kW are installed in the underground workshop. The total dynamic investment is about 8.64 billion yuan, which is the largest single investment project in the history of Linzhou, and also the first pumped storage project started in the 14th Five-Year key implementation project of Henan Province.

When the power station is completed and put into operation, it is expected to generate 970 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, saving 308,000 tons of standard coal consumption on the grid, which is equivalent to reducing about 807,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, about 25 million tons of sulfur dioxide emissions, and about 300 tons of nitrogen oxide emissions annually. The power station mainly undertakes the tasks of peak regulation, valley filling, energy storage, frequency modulation, phase modulation and emergency backup of Henan power Grid. Meanwhile, the lower reservoir (Gongshang Reservoir) will continue to undertake the original flood control tasks, which will effectively improve the peak regulation capacity of Henan power Grid. It will inject strong impetus into optimizing the power supply structure of local power grids, making them more flexible in operation, ensuring a secure and stable supply of electricity, and promoting high-quality development of local economies.
