On the afternoon of November 20, 2022, the groundbreaking ceremony of Zhejiang Tonglu pumped Storage Power Station was held. This is the largest single investment project in Tonglu County.

According to reports, Tonglu pumped storage power station is located in Tonglu County Fuchunjiang town, the total installed capacity of 1400 megawatts, annual power generation of 1.68 billion KWH, rated water head 531 meters. The total construction period of the project is 68 months, and the first power generation period of the unit is 58 months. After the completion of the project, it is mainly responsible for the tasks of peak regulation, valley filling, energy storage, frequency modulation, phase modulation and backup of Zhejiang power grid and East China Power grid.

Since April 2002, when East China Survey, Design and Research Institute came to Tonglu to carry out the site survey of the pumped storage power station project, the seeds of the layout of the pumped storage power station project have been planted in Tonglu. After years of efforts, in September 2021, the National Energy Administration issued the Medium and Long Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035), and Tonglu Pumped Storage Power Station was listed as the key implementation project of the 14th Five-Year Plan in Zhejiang Province, and entered the stage of high-speed promotion.

Zhou Weisheng, a member of the Party leadership group of Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission and director of Zhejiang Provincial Energy Bureau, praised Tonglu's speed at the groundbreaking ceremony, saying that it only took eight months from the completion of pre-feasibility study in March 2022 to the start of construction, creating the fastest speed of the pumped storage power station in Zhejiang Province. Tonglu County carried out tourism planning and other work simultaneously, and made plans in advance to promote the close integration of pumped storage industry with local tourism, health care and rural revitalization construction, so as to promote the high quality development of industry and the construction of ecological civilization.
