The construction of pumped storage power stations will further promote the green and sustainable development of the energy industry. On November 15, 2022, Hubei Development and Reform Commission officially approved the Zhushan Pankou pumped storage power Station project and issued the approval document. The installed capacity of the project is 298,000 kw, with a total investment of 2.6827 billion yuan. The project has become the first approved pumped storage power station project in Shiyan City with the fastest advance work in the same period.

Invested and constructed by Hanjiang Hydropower Development Co., LTD., the project uses the Pankou and Xiaoxuan cascade hydropower stations on the Duhe River to arrange a hybrid pumped storage power station with an installed capacity of 298,000 kilowatts and a total investment of 2682.7 million yuan. The designed annual generating capacity is 350 million kilowatt-hours and the annual revenue is 16.78 million yuan. After the completion of the project, it will effectively alleviate the prominent peak adjustment contradiction of the power grid in northwest Hubei, effectively support the safe and stable operation of the power grid, promote the consumption of new energy and improve the power grid structure, and become an important part of the new energy base project of Zhushan County with a million kW. It will vigorously promote the construction of Shiyan "green and low-carbon development demonstration area" and help Zhushan to build "clean energy development demonstration County".

Since 2021, the county has seized the opportunity and actively fought for it, successfully promoting the Zhushan Pankou Pumped storage Power Station project to be listed in the "Medium and Long-term Pumped Storage Development Plan of the National Energy Administration (2021-2035)" and the "14th Five-Year Plan" for Energy Development of Hubei Province. It has been identified as the national "14th Five-Year Plan" key implementation project and the provincial key project in 2022.
