On November 20, 2022, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Lijiacun Group of Dengguan Village Committee, Donggua Town, for the Chuxiong section of the second phase of the Yunnan-China Water diversion project. The total static investment of the Chuxiong Section of the second phase of the Yunnan-Central water diversion project is 9.682 billion yuan, and the total construction period is 42 months. The Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project will supply an average of 375 million cubic meters of water to Chuxiong Prefecture in 2040 (water at the head of the canal), including 127 million cubic meters for urban life, 93 million cubic meters for industry and 154 million cubic meters for agriculture. The construction task of the second phase of the supporting project (Chuxiong Section) is mainly for urban and industrial water supply and agricultural irrigation water. The water demand area covers 9 counties (cities) including Chuxiong City, Dayao County, Yao 'an County, Nanhua County, Muding County, Shuangbai County, Yuanmou County, Lufeng City and Wuding County. The total area of the water demand area is about 12,400 square kilometers, accounting for 42% of the total area of Chuxiong Prefecture.

According to the introduction, the construction scale of Chuxiong water demand area project of the second phase of Yunnan-Central water diversion Project is as follows: 1 first-level branch canal, 1 second-level branch canal and 4 third-level branch canals, with a total length of 142.06 kilometers, which will connect Jiu-dian, Xijinghe, Zhongshiba Reservoir and some water works in Chuxiong City. The total project budget investment of 2.393 billion yuan, the total design period of 42 months; The benefits of the project are mainly urban living, industrial water supply, ecological water replenishment, and agricultural irrigation water. The project area involves 30 village committees and communities in 7 townships and towns in the Dam District of Chuxiong City, with a total construction land area of 5972 mu. It is one of the counties and cities with the heaviest construction task in the beneficiary area of the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project of Chuxiong Prefecture.

Once completed, the Central Yunnan Water Diversion Project will divert 3.4 billion cubic meters of high-quality water every year, benefiting 37,000 square kilometers of China. It will fundamentally solve the problem of uneven spatial distribution of water resources in the central Yunnan region, and will be of great significance for Yunnan Province to achieve the vision goal of 2035 and realize socialist modernization in full step with China by 2050.
