IberBlue, a Spanish floating wind energy consortium, announced its plan to develop 990 megawatts in the western Mediterranean, which is the latest sign that Iberia's deep-water sector has gained momentum.

The developer is a joint venture between Simply Blue and Spain's oufit Proes Consultants and FF NEV. The company said that the Nao Victoria project is a 55 turbine array located in the Alberta Sea near Andalusia, which will revitalize the economy of the region.

Adrian de Andres, vice president of IberBlue, said that Andalusia is a region with great potential to develop floating offshore wind energy. We hope to make contributions to the positioning of the region in the field of offshore wind energy through this wind energy project. This project will play an important role in job creation, as it will create thousands of jobs.

IberBlue Wind said that the first development document of the project has been submitted to the Ministry of Ecological Transformation and Population Challenge of Spain for approval. The project will cover an area of about 310 square kilometers at a distance of 25-40 kilometers from the coast.

IberBlue was established in September to develop about 2GW of floating wind power projects through the upcoming bidding in Spain and Portugal, the two hottest emerging markets in Europe. At present, floating projects account for more than 15% of the total offshore wind power deployment in the pipeline opened in the middle of this century, which is equivalent to 264GW of 1750GW planned to be installed.Editor/Xing Wentao
