On the morning of November 22, 2022, the Shanzhou-Mei Expressway Reconstruction and expansion Project affiliated to Guangdong Communications Group held a construction mobilization meeting in Meizhou, marking that the first expressway reconstruction and expansion project in mountainous and heavy hilly areas of Guangdong Province will be fully started.

According to the introduction, Shanzhou-Mei Expressway is an important channel for north-south freight transportation in the northeast of Guangdong Province, connecting Guangdong, Jiangxi and Fujian provinces, and assuming the function of the comprehensive hub (airport, railway, port) in the northeast of Guangdong. With the development of society and economy, the service level of some sections in mountainous areas of Shanzhou-Mei Expressway can no longer meet the growing demand for vehicle traffic, which has become a traffic bottleneck restricting the development of local economy, and it is urgent to implement the reconstruction and expansion.

It is expanded to eight lanes in two directions

The Shanzhou-Mei Expressway reconstruction and expansion project has been included in the National Highway Network Plan (2013-2030) and the 14th Five-Year Development Plan of Guangdong Comprehensive Transportation System. The total length of the project is about 88 kilometers, starting from Jieyang Junction intersecting with S17 Jiepuhui Expressway, passing through Jiedong District of Jieyang City, Fengshun County, Xingning City and Meixian District of Meizhou City, and finally connecting with Chengjiang Junction intersecting with G25 Chang-shen Expressway and S12 Meilong Expressway.

To build a typical demonstration project

Shanzhou-mei Expressway reconstruction and expansion project is the first expressway reconstruction and expansion project in mountainous and heavy hilly area of Guangdong Province. The existing roads were constructed in an early age, with low technical indexes, and crossed with railways for 9 times, involving 41 waterways and 6 national and provincial highways, with complex construction conditions. The project passes through multiple fault structures, with complex terrain and poor geological conditions. There are 93 high slopes along the whole line, with the highest slope up to 87 meters. It is extremely difficult to keep safe while excavating while running traffic.

Centering on the goal of "repair the old, repair the old and super new", the project takes overall consideration to improve the driving safety and service level on the basis of fully benefiting the old, flexibly uses the technical indicators, and reasonably determines the reconstruction and expansion plan. "Combined with the characteristics of the mountainous and hilly areas, we set up a number of design topics and research topics, give full play to our professional technology and R&D strength, provide technical reserves and scientific support for the Shanzhou-Mei Expressway reconstruction and expansion project, and make every effort to build a typical demonstration project of the mountainous and hilly area reconstruction and expansion of the expressway." To help revitalize and develop the old Soviet areas

In recent years, Guangdong Communications Group has actively promoted the construction of Shanzhou-Mei high-speed reconstruction and expansion project, constantly accelerated the improvement of the transportation infrastructure in the mountainous area of northeast Guangdong, further promoted the coordinated development of regional economy, and helped the revitalization and development of the old Soviet area in northeast Guangdong.

The implementation of the project has also received strong support from the local government. "Departments at all levels in Meizhou will earnestly fulfill their territorial responsibilities, coordinate all forces and resources, strengthen service guarantee, accelerate the work of land expropriation and demolition, pipeline relocation and transformation, coordinate to solve major problems in the project, effectively guarantee the barrier-free construction of the project, and promote the early completion of the project and early opening to traffic." The completion of Shanzhou-Meimei high-speed reconstruction and expansion project will play an important role in constructing a new development pattern of one nuclear belt and one district in Guangdong Province, promoting infrastructure connectivity in Northeast Guangdong, driving local economic development, upgrading industrial layout along the route and promoting the development of tourism along the route.
