At 10:00 a.m. on November 30, 2022, the commencement ceremony of Zhejiang Section of Tongsu Jiayong High speed Railway was held in Qianwan New Area, which marked that the project construction officially pressed the "fast forward key", and a new round of railway construction in Ningbo embarked on a new journey.

Tongsu Jiayong High speed Railway is an integral part of the national coastal railway channel, an important inter city channel of the Yangtze River Delta integration strategy, a landmark project for the construction of the Dawan District and the Great Channel in Zhejiang Province, and an important railway construction project for Zhejiang Province to actively connect with the national strategy of "integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta".

Tongsu Jiayong High speed Railway Project

Located in the southeast of Jiangsu Province and the northeast of Zhejiang Province in the center of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration, the Tongsu Jiaxing Ningbo High speed Railway Project is a north-south railway. The line starts from Nantong West Station in Nantong City, connects with the main line of Yantong Railway, crosses the Yangtze River in the south (using the Shanghai Nantong Fourth Line Bridge), and enters Ningbo City through Suzhou City, Jiaxing City and Hangzhou Bay in the form of bridges.

The total mileage of the whole line is 309.8 km, the length of the new line is 300.7 km, and the bridge tunnel ratio is 98%. There are 10 stations in Nantong West, Zhangjiagang, Changshu West, Suzhou North, Fenhu, Jiaxing North, Jiaxing South, Haiyan West, Cixi, Zhuangqiao, etc.

The design driving speed is 350 km/h, the construction period is 5 years, and the total investment estimate of the whole line approved in the feasibility study is 108.09 billion yuan. The land section in Ningbo starts from the landing point of the sea crossing bridge in the west and connects with Zhuangqiao Station in the east. The newly-built line (excluding the sea crossing section) is about 62.9 km, covers an area of about 2620 mu, and the investment is estimated to be about 23 billion yuan.

One of the key control projects of the project, the Hangzhou Bay Sea Crossing Bridge Project, is 29.2km long. It is the longest cross sea high-speed railway bridge with the highest construction standard in the world, and is also the first cross sea high-speed railway bridge in the world with strong tide bay, ultra-low water resistance and fully buried pile group foundation. As a pilot project, it was undertaken by China Railway Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. and CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Group Co., Ltd., with a construction period of 5 years.

It is reported that the Tongsu Jiayong high-speed railway is an important part of the coastal corridor of the eight vertical and eight horizontal high-speed railway network, and an important inter city channel and link of the Yangtze River Delta urban agglomeration. It is connected with a number of east-west high-speed railways, which is of great significance for optimizing the layout of the Yangtze River Delta high-speed railway network and improving China's transportation network, promoting the high-quality integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, and realizing the complementary and comprehensive coordinated development of regional resources.

In the future, after the completion of the project, the space and time distance between major cities in the core area of the Yangtze River Delta will be greatly shortened, and it is expected to realize the vision of "one hour traffic circle" from Ningbo to Suzhou, Shanghai and other important cities in the Yangtze River Delta, and "five hour traffic circle" from Ningbo to Beijing, providing strong support for better economic and social development of Ningbo.
