Cambodia will become a regional renewable energy center and plans to export electricity to Singapore by 2035. With the support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the first phase of the National Solar Park (60 MW) project developed by EDC has been connected to the grid for power generation, while the next phase of the 40 MW project will be started in the near future.

On October 25, 2022, the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding on energy cooperation to cooperate in energy transformation. During the same period, Keppel Electric of Singapore and Royal Group of Cambodia also signed a cooperation agreement to discuss the business opportunities of developing renewable energy projects in Cambodia and exporting low-carbon electricity to Singapore. Keppel Power hopes to develop and operate several large-scale renewable energy projects in Cambodia through cooperation with Royal Group, with a total installed capacity of 2500MW, of which 1000MW will be directly exported to Singapore through submarine high-voltage cables.

Gao Ladana, general manager of Cambodia Electric Power Company, recently disclosed that Cambodia has the ability to produce renewable energy with regional competitiveness so that it can be exported to other countries in Southeast Asia, especially Singapore. But he also said frankly that although Cambodia's energy sector is full of business opportunities in the future, it needs huge foreign direct investment to build power stations and transmission networks.
