The Indian government says it plans to build more nuclear power plants to promote clean energy power generation in the country. The Federal Minister of Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, said that the government had approved in principle the construction of five new sites for nuclear power plants in the future. The government has approved the construction of ten locally designed pressurized heavy water reactors in unit mode.

These PHWR are planned to be built in the next three years. Each PHWR will have a capacity of 70MW, with a total capacity of 700MW. PHWR uses uranium as fuel and heavy water as moderator.
The Indian government is currently building 11 reactors with a total capacity of 8.7GW. The price of nuclear power generation is equivalent to that of traditional power sources such as thermal power. India currently operates 22 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of more than 6.7GW. A 700MW reactor named KAPP-3 has also been connected to the country's power grid.

The public sector entity Indian Nuclear Power Company is responsible for the design, construction, commissioning and operation of nuclear power reactors in the country. NPCIL operates under the Ministry of Atomic Energy of the Government of India. Azure Power, an Indian energy company, signed a letter of intent with the Karnataka government to develop 1.7GW of renewable energy capacity. The company plans to invest a total of $1.7 billion to develop these projects, including solar, wind and hybrid energy assets.Editor/Xing Wentao
