Total Energy, a French energy giant, confirmed that it had mobilized a team to start drilling for its new offshore natural gas project in Lebanon. Patrick Pouyann é, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, met with Walid Fayed, Minister of Energy of Lebanon, who confirmed that these businesses will be launched in Block 9 in 2023.

After reaching a maritime border agreement with Israel, Block 9 belongs to Lebanese territorial waters. So far, in addition to the operation manager, more than 10 people have participated in the preparation of the well. By the end of March, the team mobilized in Beirut will have more than 20 employees,. Total Energies owns 60% of the Block 9 project, while Italian energy company Eni owns the remaining 40%.

At the same time, in another major development, Total Energy signed a memorandum of understanding with Air France KLM, the French airline, to deliver 800000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel within 10 years in 2023. The memorandum of understanding was signed at the beginning of December. According to the agreement, SAF will be provided to Air France KLM airlines departing from France and the Netherlands. It further pointed out that SAF will be produced in the bio refinery of Total Energy, and compared with fossil equivalents, it will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by at least 80% on average in the entire life cycle.

Pouyanne said that this new partnership with Air France KLM reflects the outstanding performance of industry and French aerospace in their commitment to a more sustainable aviation industry. By directly reducing the carbon intensity of energy products used by air transport customers, we are actively working with them to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.Editor/Xing Wentao
