To meet the growing traffic demand, subway construction in key cities has been accelerated. "Hope the line is built soon so you don't have to drive home every time!" Xu Bo, who lives in Changshu City and works in Gusu district, was delighted to learn that construction of Line 10 (Suyu Zhang section) of the Suzhou Rail link is scheduled to start on December 28. The railway will run from Suzhou North Railway Station through Xiangcheng District and Changshu City to Zhangjiagang City. The main line is about 90 kilometers long and is expected to be completed in 2028.

Like Suzhou railway Line 10 (Suyu Zhang section), such as the main service along the important urban groups and the main city commuter flow, taking into account the daily travel of each group within the city rail lines, Jiangsu planning and construction of many. Six "metro cities" are under planning and construction

Guo Xiang, deputy chief engineer of Suzhou Rail Transit Group, said that urban rail transit is relative to urban rail transit, which is different from the latter connecting the main traffic nodes in the city center. Urban rail transit connects the urban edge, suburban new towns or airports. At the same time, urban rail transit passes through the important hubs of national railway and intercity railway to form a transfer, which together with urban rail transit forms a multi-dimensional urban rail transit network.

From the main city of Suzhou to the north of two lines, in addition to the above line 10 (Suyu Zhang section), there will be a line from the northern Xiangcheng District along the east Kuncheng Lake into Changshu city. To the south, Wujiang District also has two municipal rail lines, respectively covering Shengze Town area and the Fen Lake Water Town living room at the junction of Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. To the west, a city line starts from Suzhou High-tech Zone and goes directly to Wuxi Shuofang Airport. To the east, three city lines will run through Kunshan and Taicang, connecting Suzhou Science and Technology City, Suzhou Ancient City, Kunshan South Station, Taicang Station and other important nodes. Among them, Line S1, which is under construction, connects the Suzhou Industrial Park with Huaqiao Station at the junction of Shanghai and Kunming, and will become an important route between Shanghai and the main city of Suzhou. According to the plan, Suzhou aims to make the main center, sub-center (new town) and key hub accessible by rail in 30 minutes by 2035. Kunshan, Taicang, Changshu, Zhangjiagang and Suzhou urban areas can be reached by rail transit in 45 minutes.

Nanjing Metro Line S1, S7, S8 and S9 have been opened to traffic, connecting Lukou Airport, Lishui District, Liuhe District and Gaochun District respectively. From the perspective of functional positioning and technical indicators, the Nanjing section of Line S6 (Ningju) and S3 (Ninghe) in operation, as well as the Nanjing section of Line S5 (Ningyang), Line S2 (Ningma) and Line S4 (Ningzhou) under construction, also assume the function of city-area rail traffic. Wuxi Metro is planned to have S1 and S2 city-level rail connections, the former connecting Jiangyin City and the latter connecting Yixing City. In the Multi-level Rail Transit Planning of the Yangtze River Delta Region issued by the National Development and Reform Commission in June 2021, Nantong West Railway Station via Haimen to the New Airport line (Jianghai Express Line), Nantong East Railway Station via the new airport to Tongzhouwan line (Airport Express line) are included in the recent construction projects. According to the Plan of Xuzhou Urban Rail Transit Line Network (2020-2035), Xuzhou plans six municipal lines in the peripheral areas.
