From December 15 to 16, 2022, Shanghai Rail Transit Line 20 Phase I West Section Project and Shanghai Rail Transit Line 12 West Extension Project will be started one after another.

Shanghai Rail Transit Line 12 West Extension Project

On December 16, the commencement ceremony of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 12 West Extension Project was held in Songjiang District g60 Yunlang Station. On the same day, Shanghai Rail Transit Line 12 West Extension Project g60 Yunlang Station and Husong Highway Station started simultaneously.

It is understood that the west extension of Rail Transit Line 12 starts from Dongjing Station at the southeast side of the intersection of Shenzhuan Road and Jiasong South Road in Songjiang District, and finally ends at Qishen Road Station, the existing terminal of Line 12 in Minhang District. It mainly runs along Shenzhuan Road Shenzhugang Road Beizhugang Road Diannan Road Gudai Road, with a total length of 17.27 kilometers, a total investment of 16.024 billion yuan, and a construction period of 5 years.

The line is planned to use metro type a vehicles with a maximum running speed of 100km per hour. At the initial stage, near term and long term, it is planned to use 6-car formation with a train length of 140m. It is planned to use fully automatic driving technology. The lines are laid underground, with 6 stations, the maximum station spacing is about 5.23 km, and the minimum station spacing is about 1.49 km. The maximum running speed of the whole line is 100km/h, and the maximum traffic capacity of the line in the long term is not less than 30 pairs/h.

The West Extension Project of Rail Transit Line 12 is a major infrastructure project that the Songjiang people are most concerned about and eagerly looking forward to. Six stations are planned to be built in Songjiang District, including Dongjing Station, Liuwu Highway Station, Husong Highway Station, g60 Yunlang Station, Changxi Road Station and Changdong Road Station from west to east, where you can transfer with Rail Transit Line 9. It is reported that the initial, short-term and long-term passenger traffic volume of Songjiang Section is 14.51, 1928 and 198,400 person times/day respectively, effectively relieving the congestion pressure of Line 9. The west extension project of Rail Transit Line 12 will also echo and promote the construction of Songjiang Hub, deepening the regional "four networks integration" comprehensive transportation system.

The smooth commencement of construction and the transformation of the development blueprint into a better reality cannot be separated from the active efforts of the local government to coordinate and solve the practical difficulties in the implementation of the project. It is reported that the project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission on June 24 and started construction on December 16, which took less than 6 months.

After the West Extension of Line 12 was adjusted into the "Fourteenth Five Year Plan" for Shanghai's Comprehensive Transportation Development, especially after the adjustment of the third phase construction plan of Shanghai's rail transit was successfully approved by the National Development and Reform Commission, Songjiang quickly set up a leading group and special work shift for the construction of the West Extension of Line 12, and made every effort to push forward in accordance with the goal of starting construction substantially by the end of this year. With the west extension of Line 12, Songjiang is expected to open up a new development pattern.

Shanghai Rail Transit Line 20 Phase I West Section Project

On December 15, Lot 2 (Shanghai West Railway Station) of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 20 Phase I West Section Project was officially started, which also marked that the West Section of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 20 Phase I officially entered the project implementation stage.

The western section of Shanghai Rail Transit Line 20 Phase I will pass Putuo District and Jing'an District from west to east, passing through Zhenru Sub center, Daning District and other major areas. The total length of the line is about 7.2 kilometers, with 7 stations, including 3 transfer stations.

The Shanghai West Railway Station under construction this time is an island station with two floors underground. It is located to the east of Zhennan Road, to the west of Zhenjin Road, and under the traffic road. It is arranged in an east-west direction along the traffic road. After completion, it can transfer with Shanghai Rail Transit Line 11 and Line 15.
