QatarEnergy and CPChem awarded the contract related to the Golden Triangle Polymer Project to Technip Energies. Technip Energies has won a contract related to the $8.5 billion Golden Triangle polymer project from Chevron Phillips Chemical Company and Qatar Energy Company.

Under a contract worth 250 million euros, Technip Energies will provide cracking furnaces for the ethane cracking furnace of the polymer plant located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico in Orange. The capacity of ethane cracker is 2000 kilotons/year.

According to Technip Energies, the contract is in line with its early cooperation strategy with Qatar Energy and CPChem, which allegedly led to its choice of proprietary ethylene technology. The contract also includes the completion of the ethylene license and process design, according to the engineering technology company. Bhaskar Patel, Senior Vice President of Sustainable Fuels, Chemicals and Recycling Energy of Technip Energies, said that we are pleased that CPChem and QatarEnergy have selected our cracking furnace technology and design for this large-scale cracking furnace project. Using our rich experience in ethylene cracker design and our latest progress in reducing emissions will help them achieve a low-carbon future.

Technip Energies said that the modular cracking furnace to be provided for the Golden Triangle Polymer Project will have seven large capacity furnaces. The company claims that the cracking furnace is designed using modern emission reduction technologies and processes, which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared with similar facilities in Europe. In addition to the ethane cracker, the Golden Triangle Polymer Project will accommodate two high-density polyethylene units, each with a capacity of 100000 tons/year.

In November, CPChem and QatarEnergy made the final investment decision on integrated polymer facilities. The plant is scheduled to start operation in 2026.Editor/Xing Wentao
