Azerbaijan signs agreement with ACWA Power for offshore wind and BESS projects

Within the framework of the 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Committee and the 1st Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Advisory Committee, the Implementation Agreement on Offshore Wind Power Projects in the Republic of Azerbaijan with a capacity of up to 1.5 GW, between the Ministry of Energy on Azerbaijan An agreement on the implementation of onshore wind power projects with a capacity of up to 1GW in the Republic, and a memorandum of understanding on the development of battery energy storage systems in the Republic of Azerbaijan and ACWA Power of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were signed.

Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said that starting today, our partnership with ACWA Power will be expanded with wind power plant projects with a total capacity of 2.5GW and the creation of battery energy storage systems for the first time in Azerbaijan. These projects further contribute to the implementation of the national policy for the development of Azerbaijan as a green growth country and a green energy supplier. Our joint activities with ACWA Power are important for reducing carbon emissions and accelerating the energy transition, as well as securing new capacity for the planned green energy corridor from the Caspian Sea to Europe.
