Recently, the coal-fired power station project in the coal-electricity integration project of Block 1 of Thar Coalfield in Pakistan was officially put into commercial operation.

The coal-electricity integration project is located in the Thar region of Sindh Province in southern Pakistan. It is a key energy cooperation project under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. It is independently developed, constructed and operated by Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd. The project started construction in 2019, including an open-pit coal mine with an annual output of 7.8 million tons of lignite and a coal-fired power station with two 660-megawatt high-parameter supercritical thermal power generating units.

Meng Donghai, the person in charge of the coal-electricity integration project, said that the coal-fired power station project put into commercial operation uses power plant boilers, steam turbines, generators and other main equipment and main auxiliary equipment are all manufactured by Shanghai Electric. After the project is put into operation, it is expected to provide about 9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the Pakistani National Grid every year, meeting the electricity needs of nearly 4 million local households, helping the country reduce energy costs, improve energy structure, and enhance energy security.
