Central Asia is rich in wind power resources. In recent years, the construction of wind power, photovoltaic and other renewable energy bases has been continuously promoted. Recently, the Press Office of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan stated that the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan will attract China Energy Construction Group to build solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 2 GW in three regions in 2024.
Uzbekistan's Ministry of Energy said on its Telegram channel: "Signed a memorandum of understanding with China Energy Construction Group on the construction of solar photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 2,000 megawatts in Uzbekistan." Signed by Buick Mirzamakmudov during his visit to China.
Under the framework of the memorandum, Chinese companies will directly invest 2 billion U.S. dollars to build power stations in three regions of Uzbekistan—Kashkatariya, Bukhara and Samarkand.
The first batch of production capacity is planned to be put into operation at the end of 2023, and will run at full capacity in 2024. These power stations will generate 5.2 billion kWh of electricity per year and save 1.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
The first two solar stations will be built in Uzbekistan in 2021-2022. Under the terms of a 25-year partnership, Masdar, a renewable energy company from the UAE, and TotalEren, a French renewable energy developer, have each put 100 MW into operation in the Navoi and Samarkand regions capacity. Masdar has also won tenders to build three more power plants by autumn 2023, with a combined capacity of around 900 MW. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
