On February 24, 2023, Alman Kasenov, deputy chairman of the board of directors of Kazakhstan gas company QazaqGaz, said that the company proposed to Gazprom to build a new transit gas pipeline from Russia to China, which may also participate in the Promotion and application of natural gas in eastern Kazakhstan.

According to reports, Kasenov said at the meeting of the public committee of shareholders of the state welfare fund Samruk-Kazyna Kazakhstan gas company that on the promotion and application of eastern gas, Gazprom has proposed to Gazprom a route through the territory of eastern Kazakhstan The new shipping route will cover multiple regions. The scheme is under discussion and a feasibility study has been carried out. Kasenov added that currently, such a proposal has been made and a road map between the Kazakh government, business entities and Gazprom is being considered.

According to Kasenov, the new gas pipeline will be similar to the current successful Asian gas pipeline project, ensuring the completion of transportation tasks and the promotion of gas in the domestic market. At the same time, according to Kasenov, northern and eastern Kazakhstan will not be able to use its own natural gas resources to promote the use of gas in the short term, so the import of Russian natural gas is expected to create new conditions again.
