Algerian state-owned utility Sonelgaz has issued a tender for the development and construction of 15 solar power plants with a combined capacity of 2 GW. The projects will be built at 11 sites with capacities ranging from 80 MW to 220 MW. Potential developers have until May 29, 2023 to submit bids.
Algeria solar power project launched
Two projects with a capacity of 80 MW and 120 MW will be built in the Béchar region of Algeria. A 220 MW project and an 80 MW plant will be set up in the M'Sila and BBArreidj areas respectively, while another 80 MW facility has been proposed for the Batna area.
The Laghouat and Ghardaia regions will host projects of 200 MW and 80 MW respectively. Installations of 200 and 80 MW will be installed in the El Oued area.
The Touggort and M'Ghaier regions will host 130 MW and 220 MW of solar projects respectively. Three projects with capacities of 200 MW, 80 MW and 150 MW will also be constructed in the Biskra region.
In December 2022, the Algerian Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy launched a tender for the deployment of 1 GW of solar capacity.
In 2019, the Algerian government issued tenders for off-grid solar arrays, hybrid solar-diesel projects and other photovoltaic installations. The procurement round is part of the country's plan to deploy 15 GW of solar capacity by 2030.
