Recently, the construction of the comprehensive control and guidance project of Shiliang and Xiajiao Zhang-Guantai reach of the Zhanghe River began. It is reported that the project is one of the major water conservancy projects to be promoted by the Ministry of Water Resources in 2023.

The Zhanghe Shiliang and Xiajiao Zhang-Guantai river section comprehensive control and diversion project is located in the Houbi, Kuangmenkou and Guantai river sections of the Zhanghe River in the Haihe River basin, at the junction of Shanxi, Hebei and Henan provinces, with a total construction period of 18 months. The main construction tasks include the reconstruction of Xiaoyuefeng canal head, the repair and reinforcement of 19 downstream dams, and the construction of Baishan Yidao canal hydrological monitoring station.

Shen Yanping, Director of the Construction Administration of the Zhanghe River Upstream Comprehensive Control and Guidance Project, said that after the implementation of the project, some hidden dangers of the project will be eliminated, the river regime will be stabilized, the river ecology will be maintained, and the water order in the upper reaches of the Zhanghe River will be ensured to be sustainable and stable. After the completion of the future project, it will further improve the water resources dispatching engineering system in the upper reaches of the Zhanghe River, improve the water allocation and water resources monitoring capacity of the Zhanghe River, effectively build the water security barrier in the upper reaches of the Zhanghe River, and promote the high-quality development of regional economy and society.
