At 10:18 on March 1, 2023 local time, with the roar of excavators, the construction of the fourth phase of the Tajikistan-Central Asia Road Link Project undertaken by the Overseas Branch of China Railway Fifth Bureau officially started.

Project Overview

The project is a highway reconstruction project in Tajikistan, located in Sogd Prefecture in the northern part of Tajikistan, 286km away from the capital Dushanbe. It is an existing line reconstruction project consisting of four sections of roads. The foreign contract was signed on November 26, 2022 . The total length of the project is 51.2 kilometers, and it is distributed among many cities in Sogd State. The length of the line in the Khujand area is 40.9 kilometers, and the length of the line from Kuchkak to Kanibadam area is 10.3 kilometers. At the end of 2022, the project department ran into the site to overcome the harsh winter climate in Central Asia, and various preparatory work progressed in an orderly manner to ensure that the project officially started on March 1.

The main engineering quantity of the project

Including: bridge engineering (total 458m/10 bridges, 1 5x2m frame bridge), culvert engineering (total 3771m/145), drainage system engineering, earthwork, pavement engineering, sidewalk engineering, retaining wall engineering and auxiliary engineering, etc. wait. Funding comes from the World Bank. The total construction period of the project is 1095 days, and the warranty period is 365 days.

After the completion of the project, it will not only effectively improve the efficiency of cross-border trade interconnection in Central Asia, but also further contribute to the resilience and security of the regional connection infrastructure in Sogd State and Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in Tajikistan Development, to accelerate the realization of the higher-level development objectives (PrDO) of the CARs program: namely, to increase cross-border connectivity and strengthen regional integrated development to revitalize the historically active economic exchanges in Central Asia and regions along the Silk Road.

All the construction personnel of the project department are well aware of the far-reaching significance of the project to the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and vow to complete the project construction on schedule, with high quality and high efficiency, to deliver a satisfactory answer to the government and people of Tajikistan, and to establish a good reputation for China Railway Group. The image of the international community will make due contributions to the deepening of the China-Tajikistan comprehensive strategic partnership and the traditional friendship between the two peoples.

By the end of 2022, China Railway Fifth Bureau has won a total of 13 bidding projects in the Central Asian market. 6 in Tajikistan, 6 in Kyrgyzstan, and 1 in Turkmenistan. Among them, the Shar-Shar Tunnel in Tajikistan and the north-south connecting line project implemented by China Railway No. 5 Bureau won the Luban Award of China Construction Industry (Overseas Engineering), which created a good situation for China Railway No. 5 Group to gain a firm foothold in the Tajikistan market and radiate Central Asia. , and the second phase of the project and its 6.7-kilometer new project undertaken by China Railway No. Base.Editor/Ma Xue
