On March 7, 2023, the Bazhou-Tieganlik-Ruoqiang 750 kV power transmission and transformation project in Xinjiang officially started construction in Korla City. It is reported that this is the grid project with the largest single investment in Xinjiang's 750 kV power transmission and transformation projects.

Bazhou-Tieganlik-Ruoqiang 750 kV Power Transmission and Transformation Project

According to reports, the Bazhou-Tieganlik-Ruoqiang 750 kV power transmission and transformation project has a total investment of 4.616 billion yuan. The project starts from Yanqi Hui Autonomous County, passes through Bohu County, Korla City, and the Second Division of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. In Ruoqiang County, the whole line will be constructed along the southeast side of the Tarim Basin. The new substation capacity of the project is 3 million kVA, and the new 750 kV line is 875 kilometers. It is expected to be completed and put into operation in December 2024. This project is an important part of the construction of the Tarim 750 kV ring network project. It will be connected with the 750 kV power transmission and transformation projects from Ruoqiang to Qiemo and Qiemo to Minfeng in the later stage to form a 750 kV large ring network around Tarim. Optimize the main grid structure in southern Xinjiang to provide grid support for the development of coal, electricity, oil, gas, wind, wind and storage resources in the Tarim Basin.

Si Weiguo, chairman of State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Co., Ltd., said at the groundbreaking ceremony that after the completion of the project, the 750 kV power grid will be extended to Ruoqiang County, which can effectively meet the local electricity demand and improve the power supply quality of the Geku Railway Traction Station. Supporting the construction of the third AC transmission channel of Xinjiang Power Grid and promoting the interconnection of large power grids in Xinjiang and Qinghai has become an important support for the construction of a new power system demonstration area in southern Xinjiang.

Li Jun, the project manager of the owner of the project, said that 90% of the project is located in areas with harsh natural environments such as the Gobi, desert, and wasteland. It will be rolled out and completed and put into production in December 2024.

It is understood that by the end of 2022, the total installed capacity in Xinjiang has reached 121 million kilowatts. During the 14th Five-Year Plan, the planned investment in Xinjiang's power grid will exceed 110 billion yuan, an increase of 55% over the 13th Five-Year Plan. By 2025, Xinjiang will build three UHV DC transmission projects, further strengthen the 750 kV regional interconnection and the main grid structure in Xinjiang, and realize the three-channel interconnection with the Northwest Power Grid. And at the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan, a main grid structure with seven rings for internal supply and six channels for external delivery will be formed, providing strong momentum for Xinjiang's energy advantages to be transformed into economic advantages.
