Recently, the start-up mobilization meeting of the Lianyungang section of the second phase of Jiangsu Sulian Waterway Project was held at Shannan Ship Lock, Tongxing Town, Guanyun County, which opened a new page in the history of water transportation Lianyungang.

It is reported that the Lianyungang section of the second-phase project of the Sulian Waterway starts from the junction of Suqian City and Lianyungang City, passes through Guanyun County and Haizhou District, and ends at the intersection of the Sulian Waterway and the Yanhe River. The total length is 22.249 kilometers. Kilometers, the starting point of renovation is about 1.1 kilometers downstream of Longju Bridge, along the Gubo River to the northeast, to the mouth of Yanhe River, the end of renovation. Renovation and construction according to the three-level standard, the design maximum ship class is 1,000 tons, the bottom width of the channel is not less than 45 meters, the minimum navigable water depth is 3.2 meters, and the minimum bending radius is 320 meters. It is planned to be completed and open to navigation in 2025.

The construction and opening of the Sulian Waterway will further improve the network of trunk waterways in Jiangsu Province and greatly enhance the energy level of inland water transportation in Lianyungang. Thousand-ton ships can go directly from Lianyungang to the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Suqian, connecting northern Anhui, eastern Henan, and southern Shandong. Waiting for the vast hinterland of Huaihai to open up the most convenient channel for the above-mentioned areas to sail out of the sea, realize high-quality sea-river intermodal transportation, and will also strongly support the construction of Lianyungang International Hub Seaport, making Lianyungang’s contribution to the empowerment and efficiency of Jiangsu’s more distinctive water transportation .
