On the morning of March 18, 2023, the hydro-solar complementary photovoltaic project of Kajiwa Hydropower Station on Zhengxi Pasture, Shawan Township, Muli County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan Province officially started construction.

The hydro-solar complementary 210MW photovoltaic project of Kajiwa Hydropower Station is located in a high-altitude area between 4150 and 4450 meters. The project area has abundant sunlight resources and has obvious advantages in photovoltaic power generation. According to the person in charge of the construction unit China Construction Second Engineering Bureau, the total investment of the project is 833 million yuan. After the project is completed, the annual power generation will reach 456 million kwh, which can save 114,200 tons of standard coal and reduce more than 300,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Realize an average annual output value of 110 million yuan, and increase local fiscal and taxation by more than 10 million yuan every year.

Water-light complementary technology realizes the function of rapid compensation of hydropower and photovoltaic power generation. There are seasonal differences in photovoltaic power generation, which form a natural year-round complementarity with the characteristics of hydropower generation in summer wet season and winter dry season, which solves the problem of solar abandonment and safety grid connection of photovoltaic power generation.

It is understood that the project is invested by China Huadian Group and undertaken by China Construction Second Engineering Bureau. The average altitude of the operation is 4,400 meters. It is a photovoltaic project in plateau mountainous areas. The builders will face difficulties such as low oxygen content and strong ultraviolet radiation. The project is expected to be completed on August 31, 2023. After completion, it will further improve the ability to transmit electricity from west to east and help the sustainable development of the new energy industry.Editor / He Yurong
