However, although renewable energy accounts for a relatively high proportion of Vietnam's installed power generation capacity, many people believe that there are still many obstacles in the process of energy transformation, and it has not really reached the expected level, especially the development policy of new energy.

Vietnam is focusing on the development of renewable energy such as solar energy, and continues to invest in the development of wind power and biomass energy. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, the total installed capacity of electricity in Vietnam has reached about 78,000 MW, of which renewable energy has reached 21,000 MW, accounting for nearly 30%.

The development of offshore wind power is also a solution proposed by many. The draft Eighth Power Development Plan will prioritize the development of 7 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind power, but so far, the specific mechanisms and policies to achieve this goal remain unclear.

According to the Vietnam Clean Energy Association, Vietnam strives to use no carbon by 2050 and reduce emissions to zero.
