Vietnam is planning a new road tunnel project that will replace part of the 4D National Road. The new tunnel will better connect Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces in northern Vietnam near the Chinese border.
The construction of the tunnel will provide a safer and faster alternative route to the existing Hoang Lien pass. This 22km pass rises to 2000m above sea level and can be challenging in winter. Construction of the new tunnel will improve driver safety while also reducing journey time from two hours to just 11 minutes. The new tunnel will provide a vital connection to Hoang Lien National Park and help boost tourism in the area. The project will be managed by Vietnam's Ministry of Transport.
Meanwhile, a new expressway with a total length of 58 kilometers has been proposed to connect Bac Lieu, Soc Trang and Hau Giang provinces. The work, with an estimated price of $958 million, should not be completed until 2030, if approved. The construction of the expressway will improve connectivity in the Mekong Delta region.Editor/XingWentao
