provide a large number of jobs

In 2013, the Eighth Hydropower Bureau undertook the construction of the Zongelo Hydropower Station project. Two years later, Hope, a native of Nigeria, became a member of the office of the Eighth Hydropower Bureau of China. She is mainly responsible for paperwork, printing and other work, and helps us connect with government departments and project owners in the capital. Chen Xueyun, general manager of Zongelo Project in Nigeria, said that Hope is a hardworking girl who can speak fluent Chinese, which brings convenience to their work. In the project department, many local people like Hope have signed labor contracts with China Hydropower Bureau No. 8 Bureau. During the peak period of employment, there were more than 5,000 people, with a monthly income of 1,500 yuan.

Hope can get 2,500 yuan a month, which is considered a high-income class in the local area. Chen Xueyun said that the Zongalu Hydropower Station will be basically completed by the end of December 2022, and the main task is to do some finishing work. Recently, Hope has been traveling back and forth between the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Finance, responsible for handling business correspondence for the project.

Watching the slow construction of the Zonglu Hydropower Station, there is also the local Zonglu Chief Madaki. Madaki said that the construction of the Zongalu Hydropower Station has provided us with a large number of job opportunities. After many local people have stable jobs, law and order have become more secure. The project also brought some medical facilities, and the locals can receive free treatment, which solved many headaches for him.

The Chinese have opened a vegetable planting base in Africa

In Uganda, hundreds of kilometers away from Nigeria, Ding Tuqiang, general manager of the 812 joint venture of Sinohydro Uganda Karuma Hydropower Station, is in a good mood recently. The start-up was successful on March 9, and all indicators of the mechanical test of the unit were normal. After many tests , is expected to be able to generate electricity by the end of the month.

The Karuma hydropower station project is located in the northwest of Uganda. After completion, it will become the largest hydropower station in East Africa and solve the major problem of local electricity shortage. Ding Tuqiang introduced that the construction of the Karuma Hydropower Station started in 2013. After continuous running-in and repeated construction, the external power transmission and transformation lines of the power station will be fully connected by the end of 2022. It is expected that all 6 units of the project will generate electricity in 2023.

Previously, Ding Tuqiang had stayed in the Bujakari project in eastern Uganda and met a local named David. Hard-working David left a deep impression on him. In 2022, Ding Tu emphasized that after arriving at the Karuma Hydropower Station, he immediately invited David over.

After more than ten years of honing in the project, David's skills have also been continuously improved. He used to manage the factory, but now he is in the project quality supervision, and he can earn 3,000 yuan a month. Ding Tuqiang said that many local people choose to work in projects in China, which can improve their income and improve their skills.

Ding Tuqiang also shared an interesting story. In order to cater for the appetite of the company's employees, the overseas projects of the Eighth Bureau of Hydropower are equipped with Chinese chefs. Chinese chefs love to grow vegetables during their daily breaks. Ding Tuqiang said that tomatoes, water spinach, cabbage... have basically been grown, and the locals will come to ask for them when they see them, and the chefs behind them will directly teach them the techniques of growing vegetables. Now there are also Chinese who have opened special vegetable planting bases in Africa. Editor/He Yuting
