On March 28, 2023, Honduran Foreign Minister Eduardo Reina accepted an exclusive interview at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse. Reina said that the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Honduras is what the people want and the trend of the times. The trip has yielded fruitful results and the relationship between the two countries has broad prospects for development. He reiterated that Hong Kong firmly supports the one-China principle.

Talking about the results of this trip, Reyna said that this is a very important visit, a historic visit, which fully realizes the vision of President Chiomara Castro, which seeks to establish more open international relations in Honduras , to participate more in the development of a multi-polar world. China plays a very important role in promoting multilateralism, so it is beneficial to strengthen ties with China. It is hoped that President Chiomara Castro's visit to China can be facilitated at an early date. It is also hoped that Honduras business groups will visit China at the right time to better understand the import and export situation of both sides, and also enable China to better understand the Honduras market. The development of Hong Kong-China relations is full of advantages and opportunities.

At this time, the significance of establishing diplomatic relations between Honduras and China, in Reina’s view, is a pragmatic choice that conforms to the general trend, because China is not only very prominent in the field of trade and investment, but also has an important voice in international organizations, and most countries regard it as China is a major power.

Faced with Taiwan's Tsai Ing-wen authorities, who have continuously expanded the space for international activities since they came to power, creating one China, one Taiwan, and seeking Taiwan independence, Reina said that Honduras has made a firm decision to recognize the one-China principle, and now it must consolidate this decision.

Rainer also said that China has proposed the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative, and the diplomatic concepts behind them are in line with the basic norms of international relations. As far as the initiative is concerned, Honduras is considering how to join it, seeking mutual benefit and win-win results for both parties.

Looking into the future, Reina has high expectations for the development of Hong Kong-China relations. He hopes that Hong Kong and China will strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, culture, society and other fields to promote mutual benefit between the two countries. He also looks forward to learning about China's legislative system, the system and path followed by China's poverty alleviation and growing development, and learning China's positive and beneficial experience through more groups' exchanges in China.

Rainer believes that media cooperation is the best way to understand each other. Through these exchanges, the Honduran people can learn more about Chinese culture, understand China's national conditions, and understand how the Chinese people can overcome many huge challenges in history and embark on a new journey. Therefore, media cooperation is very beneficial to strengthening the great brotherhood between China and Hong Kong and promoting the future development of bilateral relations.Editor/Ma Xue
