With the influx of Chinese technology into Brazil's energy sector, China-Brazil cooperation is deepening. The China-Brazil New Energy Project and relevant persons said that they have witnessed that China has brought green energy to Brazil and improved the lives of more and more Brazilians.
good vision
As a mother, Lidiani Diotti once struggled with explaining her job to her almost 5-year-old daughter. Diotti is the manager of the safety, quality and environment department of CGN Brazil Energy Holdings Co., Ltd., and is mainly responsible for ensuring the work safety of renewable energy project sites.
The mother is responsible for ensuring the safety of colleagues, and the mother also monitors the work environment... These answers are too complicated for a little girl. Until recently, the Diotti family passed by a wind turbine while traveling. She pointed to the huge white tower standing in the green jungle, and said to her daughter, this is the mother's job. Mother can create clean energy and help everyone Take a hot shower and light the lights at home.

Diotti has worked in Brazil's new energy field for many years. In her opinion, the arrival of Chinese investment has painted a bright prospect for Brazil's sustainable development. For example, after CGNPC entered the Brazilian market, our current development projects are looking at 20 to 30 years later and making long-term plans. She believes that these long-term projects can really help Brazil's development in the fields of economy, energy, and sustainability.
Since entering Brazil in 2019, CGNPC has focused on investing in new energy power generation projects. Currently, there are 6 wind power plants and 2 photovoltaic projects in operation, with a total installed capacity of about 1.5 GW under construction and in operation.
Green Opportunities in Desert Towns
In the state of Rio Grande do Norte in the northeastern part of Brazil, there is a small city called João Camara. This small city with a population of just over 30,000 has an arid climate and harsh natural conditions. However, in the hot and windy desert on the outskirts of the city, there is an oasis of renewable energy hidden.
This oasis is the Gamelera Wind Power Project, which is also the first greenfield wind power project constructed by China State Grid Corporation of Brazil after it took over São Paulo Electric and Light Company CPFL in 2017. The Gamelera wind power project will be completed and put into operation in September 2021. It can supply about 360 million kWh of clean electricity every year, which is equivalent to saving 129,600 tons of standard coal, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 358,900 tons, and creating more than 2,000 local jobs.
Local employee Joao Bastos said that Chinese investment has brought new development opportunities and a better employment environment to the local area. Many of my colleagues are local, and working here has greatly improved our lives. By the end of 2022, CPFL, a company controlled by State Grid Brazil, has employed more than 15,000 employees in Brazil, and has won many important local awards in terms of employee growth, sustainable development, and customer service. At present, CPFL has completed and put into operation 3 greenfield power transmission projects, 1 greenfield wind power project and 1 greenfield hydropower project in Brazil. The total installed capacity of power generation in operation has reached 7.54 GW, of which more than 95% of the power generation is renewable The installed capacity of energy and new energy ranks second in the Brazilian market.
Win-win cooperation with worldwide significance
Luis Paulino, a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Science of Sao Paulo State University, said that the cooperation between China and Brazil in the field of sustainable development is of great significance to the development of both countries and the world. Paulino believes that cooperation between the two countries in renewable energy can help Brazil build a more balanced power supply network and reduce its long-term dependence on hydropower.
According to statistics from Brazil's National Energy Corporation, 56.8% of the country's total power generation in 2021 will come from hydropower. However, Brazil will encounter a severe drought in 2021, resulting in insufficient water and electricity supply, and will have to re-use highly polluting and more expensive thermal power plants to generate electricity. In order to meet the challenges of energy crisis and climate change, Brazil urgently needs to seek more international partners to cooperate in the development of its rich green energy resources. The deepening cooperation between China and Brazil in the field of renewable energy has provided new impetus for Brazil's economic transformation.
Chen Daobiao, general manager of State Grid Pakistan Power Company, said that China and Brazil have great potential for cooperation in renewable energy, and it can be said that they hit it off immediately. Fang Likui, chairman of CGN Brazil, is also optimistic about the prospect of cooperation between the two countries in renewable energy. In his view, China-Brazil cooperation in this field not only provides assistance for the green transformation of Brazil's economy, but also provides a broad space for Chinese enterprises to expand overseas markets.
