On the evening of April 12, 2023, Brazilian President Lula arrived in Shanghai, China, and started his visit to China. On the morning of April 13, 2023, he went to the first stop of his visit, the headquarters of the BRICS New Development Bank in Pudong New Area, Shanghai.

In his speech, Lula said that when I served as President of Brazil, I was very honored to participate in many summits of organizations such as the Group of Twenty, and held many closed-door meetings with Russia, India, China and South Africa. . At that time we wanted to set up our own development bank. I think about a question every night, why do all countries use US dollars for settlement? Why can't the RMB or other currencies become the international settlement currency? Why can't the BRICS Bank provide loans in the currencies of its member countries? I know everyone is used to using dollars, but in the 21st century we can do things differently.

There are about 40 senior officials in the Brazilian delegation, including Brazilian cabinet ministers, state governors and members of Congress, as well as more than 200 Brazilian business leaders. There are many ministers in the delegation this time, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, the Ministry of Science and Technology Innovation, the Ministry of Mining and Energy, etc., which shows that agricultural products, iron ore, earth resources Industries and fields such as satellites, 5G communications, and semiconductors are all on the economic agenda of Lula's visit to China.

China and Brazil are important economic and trade partners to each other. In recent years, the economic and trade cooperation between the two countries has been continuously deepened, bilateral trade has developed steadily, and investment cooperation has become increasingly active.

According to the Ministry of Commerce of China, China is an important source of direct investment in Brazil. Brazil is China's largest source of imports of soybeans and chicken, and important agricultural products such as corn have also achieved rapid growth in exports to China.Editor/Ma Xue
