On April 23, 2023, the Taoyuan Reservoir Project in Yunnan Province officially started construction. It is reported that the Taoyuan Reservoir Project in Yunnan Province is one of the 150 major water conservancy projects in the country.

According to reports, the Taoyuan Reservoir Project is located in Jianchuan County and Eryuan County of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It is one of the major water conservancy projects that the Ministry of Water Resources will focus on promoting in 2023. The total storage capacity of the reservoir is 112 million cubic meters, and the total investment of the project is 5.538 billion The total construction period is 54 months. The main task of the project is to replace part of the agricultural irrigation water in the Erhai Lake Basin, supply 75.1 million cubic meters of water to the 164,000-mu irrigation area in the Erhai Lake Basin, and replenish ecological water to the Erhai Lake. The designed multi-year average water supply is 168.03 million cubic meters.

The main construction contents of Taoyuan Reservoir Project are hub project, water diversion project and water delivery project. The pivotal project consists of a dam, a spillway, and a water diversion tunnel. The dam is a clay core dam with a maximum dam height of 68 meters. The spillway is 328 meters long, and the diversion tunnel is 594.25 meters long. The Liqing Tunnel is 7,560 meters long, with a design diversion flow of 6 cubic meters per second; the water transfer project mainly includes the water intake hub and the Hejiang water transfer tunnel. The water transfer tunnel is 15,260 kilometers long, and the designed water transfer flow is 15 cubic meters per second.

After completion, it will further consolidate the foundation of food security irrigation and water supply in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, increase the amount of clean ecological water flowing into the Erhai Lake, effectively improve the carrying capacity of water resources and water environment in the Erhai Lake Basin, and maintain and improve the water ecological environment in the Erhai Lake area.
