On April 26, 2023, a tunnel boring machine with a cutter head painted with a dragon carp pattern rolled off the production line in Changsha Second Industrial Park of China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., marking the successful development of the world's first large-diameter double-shield earth pressure combined tunnel boring machine . This equipment solves the problem that the previous double-shield tunnel boring machine only has open tunneling and is only suitable for a single stable geological condition. This equipment has a diameter of 8.9 meters, a total length of 131 meters, and a total weight of about 1,500 tons. It is named Tiebing Guanghua No. 6. It is jointly built by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry and China Railway 15th Bureau Group. It will participate in the Guangzhou East to Huadu Tiangui Intercity Project construction of the section between Jingxi Road Station and Baiyun Dongping Station.

According to different geological construction conditions, tunnel boring machines are mainly divided into several categories such as earth pressure balance shield machine, mud-water balance shield machine, rock tunnel boring machine, etc. Among them, rock tunnel boring machine has single shield, double shield, There are various types of open type, and it is the first time in the world to manufacture an earth pressure and double-shield combined roadheader of more than 8 meters. During the construction of Tiebing Guanghua No. 6, it can carry out propulsion and assembling segment operations in the double-shield mode to improve construction efficiency; at the same time, it pioneered the sealing and pressure bearing of the main structure of the double-shield roadheader, ensuring that the earth pressure mode is Safe construction under weak and water-rich formations.

This project is the first work area in China to use vertical mechanical shafts in the field of urban rail. The geological length of hard rock that needs to be traversed accounts for as much as 96%. The maximum buried depth of the tunnel exceeds 210 meters, and the maximum rock strength exceeds 200 MPa. The length of the starting shaft of the project is only 33.2 meters. During the excavation process, the equipment needs to overcome a number of technical difficulties in hard rock excavation, crossing multiple broken zones, upper soft and lower hard composite strata and boulder strata. The construction is difficult and the technical content is high. The construction of interval boring machines brings challenges.

In the research and development, the research and development team has overcome a series of key technologies such as double-shield shield high-pressure sealing technology, modular design and fast mode switching technology, high-precision deviation correction control technology, and advanced geological forecasting, which has greatly enhanced the ability of the equipment during construction.
