SSE Renewables has announced plans to transform the 152.5MW Sloy power plant, the largest traditional hydroelectric power plant in the UK, into a new pumped storage facility to enhance energy security and help provide large-scale and flexible renewable energy backup for the UK's net zero electricity system in the future. The Chief Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, announced this news today during a visit to the SSE iconic power station located on the shores of Lake Lomond in central Scotland, Argyle and Bite. This visit marks the 80th anniversary of the enactment of the Hydroelectric Development (Scotland) Act of 1943, which introduced hydroelectric power into the Scottish Canyon eight years ago.

According to the final design, the converted Sloy scheme will be able to provide up to 25GWh of long-term power storage capacity. With just one click, the converted Sloy solution can provide up to 160 hours of uninterrupted, stable, and flexible renewable energy, enough to provide electricity to approximately 90000 households for up to a week. SSE has decided to announce plans to increase new pumped storage capacity at its existing Sloy power station, while this leading low-carbon energy infrastructure company is waiting for the UK government to make a decision on how it plans to support the deployment of long-term electricity storage, as set out in last year's UK energy security strategy.

Scotland has abundant natural resources, helping us become a world leader in the field of renewable energy. Sloy power stations and other facilities continue to play an important role in energy supply, providing flexible services to the grid, and helping to ensure sustained, resilient, and safe electricity supply by helping to balance intermittent renewable energy generation.

Hydroelectric power generation is the primary source of renewable energy in the country, and it has the potential to play a greater role in the transition to net zero emissions - whether in small-scale cooperation with local communities or on a larger scale, helping to ensure sustained, resilient and safe electricity supply. We continue to call on the UK government to provide appropriate market mechanisms for hydropower and other long-term energy storage to ensure that this potential is fully realized. We are pleased to announce the new reconstruction plan for our landmark Sloy power station, especially as we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the contribution of hydropower to the supply of electricity to Scotland and the UK.

By transforming our existing Sloy conventional hydroelectric power plant into pumped storage facilities, we can provide the additional large-scale, long-term electricity storage we need as part of the country's future energy structure. With a storage capacity of up to 25GWh, this plan can provide a completeEditor/XingWentao
