Recently, the pre feasibility study report review meeting for Gaochang Pumped Storage Power Station in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was held in Urumqi City. Over the course of three days, the review of the pre feasibility study report for the Gaochang pumped storage power station project was successfully completed through on-site inspections, results reporting, group discussions, and internal expert group discussions.

Gaochang Pumped Storage Power Station Project

Gaochang District is located in the middle of Turpan Basin, with Tianshan Mountain in the north, Jueluotage Mountain and Kuruktag Mountain in the south, and Flaming Mountain in the middle. The terrain is high in the north and low in the south, with a concave center. The lowest point is in the Eddin Lake area, which is 155 meters below sea level. Flame Mountain divides Gaochang District into two parts, north and south, horizontally from east to west.

The Gaochang Pumped Storage Power Station in Xinjiang is a key project implemented during the 14th Five Year Plan period of the National Energy Administration's Pumped Storage Medium and Long Term Power Station Plan (2021-2035). The power station is located on the left bank of Talanggou in Gaochang District, Turpan City, 50km away from the urban area. The planned total installed capacity is 1400MW, and it is planned to establish four reversible water turbine generator units with a single unit capacity of 350MW. The designed annual power generation is 2.814 billion kW · h, and the annual pumping capacity is 3.752 billion kW · h.

It is reported that the power station hub is mainly composed of buildings such as upper and lower water reservoirs, water delivery systems, underground power plants, and switch stations. The initial estimated total investment of the project is 11.48 billion yuan. The initial plan is to use a reinforced concrete face rockfill dam for the upper reservoir, with a maximum dam height of 59m; The lower water reservoir adopts a reinforced concrete faced gravel dam with a maximum dam height of 54m. After the completion of the power station, it mainly undertakes the tasks of peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency backup for the power system.
