As a major cooperation project jointly signed by the leaders of China and Bangladesh, recently, the 2×660 MW supercritical coal-fired unit power station in Aisalam, Bangladesh, participated in the investment and EPC general contracting of Shandong Power Construction No. 3 Company, a subsidiary of Power China. Unit 1 was successfully connected to the grid once. After the completion of the project, the annual power generation will be 10 billion kWh, which will greatly alleviate the local electricity demand and promote the local economic and social development.

On October 14, 2016, President Xi Jinping and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Hasina jointly witnessed the unveiling ceremony of the project

Project Overview

The project is the thermal power unit with the largest single-unit capacity and the largest coal-fired power station in Bangladesh. At the same time, as an important project for the construction of the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor, it has attracted great attention from the leaders of the two countries. The power station is located in Banskali City, Chittagong City, and adopts seawater once-through cooling and seawater desulfurization technology. Large-scale equipment such as generators and boilers used in the project are all made in China, helping domestic equipment manufacturers to go abroad and shine more light on the Belt and Road.

The project is committed to building a demonstration coal-fired power plant in Bangladesh, providing more than 8,000 direct jobs and more than 20,000 indirect jobs during the peak period of construction, which greatly promoted local employment and economic development. After the completion of the project, the annual power generation will be 10 billion kWh, which will completely reverse the current situation of power shortage in Bangladesh. At the same time, it will cultivate a large number of talents for the construction and operation of similar units for Bangladesh, helping it realize the golden Bangladesh dream.

Sometimes I can't even imagine living the life I have now. Top, a foreign employee, participated in the construction at the end of 2018. He patted the motorcycle he had been with day and night and said that in the past three years since he joined the company, his family’s income has increased, his children have gone to school, and he bought a motorcycle for transportation. He has become the envy of everyone in the village.

In terms of projects, the average annual wages of foreign workers are above 30,000 taka, far exceeding the average wages of the capital Dhaka. The motorcycles lined up at the gate of the factory area are the best proof that PowerChina has brought a better life to the local people!

Since the arrival of PowerChina, I have a skill, and every household here has access to electricity. Thanks to the technical training of the project department, Tanim has been promoted from an operator to an engineer. When it comes to life changes, he is full of joy.

Engineer Tanim is working

Today, walking on the asphalt road in Chittagong, there are many shops on both sides of the road, and modern buildings stand tall, with motorcycles and cars shuttling among them. In just over 10 years, it has become a small modern city. These are all the fruits of Power China's help in building power stations. Sometimes I can't even imagine today's prosperity. Tanim said emotionally.

Since PowerChina entered the Bangladeshi market in the 1990s, it has undertaken many livelihood projects such as the world's largest river improvement project - Padma Bridge River Improvement Project, South Asia's largest sewage treatment project - Dasher Gandhi Sewage Treatment Plant, etc. , becoming an important force in the field of energy infrastructure construction in the country.Editor/Ma Xue
