Located in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is known as the Maritime Crossroads of the East due to its unique location. But Sri Lanka faces huge development challenges due to the homogeneity of local industries. Now, Colombo, the capital, is capitalizing on the Belt and Road Initiative and its port advantages to build a regional financial and logistics hub. The pearl of the Indian Ocean is reinvigorated.

Sri Lanka has been a geopolitical chokepoint and an important transit hub in South Asia since ancient times. Located at the southern tip of the Indian subcontinent, it is the most beautiful island in the world in Marco Polo's eyes, with convenient geographical conditions linking East and West. From the perspective of international trade, Sri Lanka is located on the busiest route between Asia and Europe, and is an important hub port in South Asia, with innate advantages in developing port and shipping industry.

At present, the Colombo Port City, a large-scale investment project jointly carried out by China Harbor and Sri Lanka government, is being built here, which is known as a model of cooperation between the two countries in building the Belt and Road. Next, the Port of Colombo will continue to operate as a container and logistics hub; Galle port is positioned as a tourist destination and equipped with a cruise terminal; Trincomalee port is an industrial port. In addition, the Government will vigorously promote the digital and paperless operation of ports. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
