Recently, the reporter came to the affordable housing project in Nairobi, Kenya, undertaken by China Construction, and interviewed the affordable housing designers and residents. This project is a key project of the Belt and Road undertaken by China Construction in Kenya, and has effectively improved the housing environment in Kenya after the completion of the project.

Kenya's rapidly growing urban population, which makes up 22% of the total population and is growing at an annual rate of about 4.2%, is placing more demand on housing. According to a national housing survey released by the Kenyan government, the country has a housing shortage of more than 200,000 units a year. In order to solve the housing problem of middle and low income people, the Nairobi Park Road affordable housing project came into being.

The Nairobi Park Road Affordable Housing project, undertaken by China Construction, is the first affordable housing project undertaken by the Kenyan government to improve people's livelihood. It covers an area of 32,000 square meters, with a floor area of 123,000 square meters, including 1,370 housing units and related supporting infrastructure. The project started in early 2019, and despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was completed 105 days ahead of schedule and delivered 75 days ahead of the contracted time.Editor/Ma Xue
