SSEN Transmission has announced a £10bn investment in the transmission network in the north of Scotland under the Pathway to 2030 Programme to facilitate the grid connection of up to 11GW of new offshore wind capacity.

Sse's transmission grid business said the Road to 2030 program aims to fund several new onshore reinforcement, undersea connections and other projects. According to SSEN Transmission, the projects are part of a wider upgrade of the UK's electricity transmission network to meet the UK and Scottish governments' climate change and energy security targets.
The company's new investment programme will contribute more than £6 billion of added value to the UK economy. Citing a new analysis conducted by BiGGAR Economics, SSEN Transmission said this included around £2.5bn in direct additional benefits in Scotland.

Graham Stewart, UK Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero Emissions, said SSEN Transmission's Road 2030 programme was a significant investment in the future of Scotland and the rest of the UK.
This is a £6.2 billion economic boost for the UK and will provide long-term and well-paid jobs while helping the UK achieve home-grown energy security and a power network fit for the future. In addition, the Road to 2030 programme is expected to explore the huge potential of the north of Scotland to meet the UK and Scottish Government's 2030 targets by increasing grid capacity.
In November 2022, SSE agreed to sell 25% of SSEN Transmission to Canada's Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board for £1.46 billion.Editor/XingWentao
