On June 14, 2023, it was learned from the Development and Reform Commission of Shanxi Province that the Pumped-storage hydroelectricity project in Puxian County, Shanxi Province has been approved, marking that the construction of the project can enter a new stage.

The power station is located in Heilongguan Town and Qiaojiawan Town, Pu County, Linfen City, about 290km away from Taiyuan City. The hub project mainly consists of an upper reservoir, a lower reservoir, a water conveyance system, an underground powerhouse, and a ground switch station. The upper reservoir is located at the head of the branch ditch on the right bank of the lower reservoir; The construction of the lower water reservoir and the Puxian Huale Reservoir should be merged, and the merged construction should meet the engineering tasks and water supply scale approved by the original Huale Reservoir.

Puxian Pumped-storage hydroelectricity is a key implementation project of the 14th Five Year Plan of the Medium and Long Term Development Plan of Pumped Storage (2021-2035). The installed capacity of the power station is 1200MW, with a total investment of 9.703 billion yuan. After the completion of the power station, it will undertake tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency backup for the power system.
