The Fancheng back-to-back converter station project, with a rated DC voltage of ± 100 kV and a rated transmission power of 600000 kW, is designed according to Chinese DC transmission standards and technology, and more than 90% of the equipment is made in China. It is a highlight project of the the Belt and Road of the National Grid.

Mohammed Chakar, the chief engineer of the back to back converter station in Van, said that this is the first back-to-back converter station in Türkiye and has great significance for Türkiye. The project will not only help Türkiye and neighboring countries to interconnect power, but also the back-to-back technology can effectively block the impact of faulty power grids on the normal power grids of all interconnected parties, so as to maximize the security of Türkiye's power grid.

Chakar said that with the help and guidance of Chinese friends, they have gradually mastered High-voltage direct current technology. For two years, this place has been like a big family. Chinese engineers have really helped us. From the initial stage of construction to the later stage of maintenance, they always support us and solve problems for us. He said.

On November 1, 2022, the Fancheng converter station project successfully completed a 28 day trial operation

This year, Chakar sent his family in İzmir, western Türkiye, to Van to settle down. As the first batch of High-voltage direct current technicians in Türkiye, he is full of hope for his future development. This project has changed my life, and the skills I have learned here will benefit me for a lifetime.

Mustafa Olhan, an engineer at Fancheng Back-to-Back Converter Station, stated that he worked at the station for two years and was exposed to many new equipment and knowledge. He also saw professionalism and rigor from Chinese engineers. We have learned a lot from Chinese engineers and formed deep friendships because of their help, we can better operate this system. Olhan said.

Yan Feng, the general representative of the Middle East Representative Office of State Grid China Power Equipment Co., Ltd., introduced that as Türkiye's first HVDC project, 90% of the equipment in the project is made in China, and Chinese technology and standards are used for operation and maintenance, which strongly promotes the project cooperation between China and Turkey in the field of high-end power technology, drives Chinese equipment, technology and standards to go global, and forms a new breakthrough in the overseas high-end market.
