CNPC and QatarEnergy Sign the North Gas Field Expansion Project

Qatar is rich in natural gas resources and has continuously strengthened all-round cooperation with Chinese enterprises in recent years, which is a vivid practice of implementing the strategic consensus of the two heads of state. On June 20, 2023, CNPC and QatarEnergy signed a cooperation document on the North Gas Field Expansion Project in Doha, the capital of Qatar. According to the agreement between the two parties, QatarEnergy will continue to supply 4 million tons/year of LNG resources to CNPC in the next 27 years, and transfer 1.25% of the shares of the North Gas Field Expansion Project to CNPC.

The signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of QatarEnergy. Dai Houliang, Chairman of CNPC, and Qaabi, Secretary of State for Energy Affairs of Qatar and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, respectively signed cooperation documents and delivered speeches on behalf of both parties.

Dai Houliang pointed out that the two heads of state reached an important consensus on deepening China CARIGALI practical cooperation in the new era, pointing out the direction for the development of China CARIGALI strategic partnership. The cooperation of the North Gas Field Expansion Project is a major achievement and excellent practice of CNPC and QatarEnergy in implementing the strategic consensus of the two heads of state, and is another important milestone in promoting the docking of China's the Belt and Road Initiative and Qatar's 2030 national vision strategy. At the new starting point of cooperation, CNPC will actively explore all-round cooperation with QatarEnergy in the whole oil and gas industry chain, green low-carbon energy and other fields, give full play to the proprietary technology and unique experience advantages accumulated in the development of oil and gas fields for a long time, fully support the efficient operation of the North Gas Field Expansion Cooperation Project, create new value, and make new and greater contributions to enriching the connotation of China Qatar strategic partnership in the energy field.

Qaabi stated that Qatar is an important natural gas partner of China, and China is a key market for Qatar's energy products. This signing fulfilled the commitment of QatarEnergy to its partners, marking a new level of cooperation between the two sides. In the future, QatarEnergy will implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, further strengthen communication and coordination, deepen practical cooperation with CNPC, and inject inexhaustible impetus into expanding the energy cooperation between the two countries.

Before the signing of the cooperation document, Dai Houliang held talks with Kaabi. The two sides hope to further realize cooperation in a wider range, broader fields and deeper levels on the basis of good cooperation, mutual benefit and win-win results.

It is reported that Qatar is the world's largest LNG exporter, and the Northern Gas Field is the world's largest single gas field. The expansion project of the Northern Gas Field includes gas field development and four 8 million ton/year LNG production lines. After completion and operation, an additional annual LNG production capacity of 32 million tons will be added, and Qatar's annual LNG export capacity will be increased to 110 million tons.

During Doha, Dai Houliang visited the expansion project of the North Gas Field located in the Rasrafan Industrial City, Qatar. The onshore liquefied natural gas processing facility for this project is under construction and is scheduled to be put into operation in 2025.Editor/Ma Xue
