Environmentally friendly and low-carbon nuclear energy is the only way for the world's energy development. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on June 20, 2023 that Pakistan and China signed a memorandum of understanding worth $4.8 billion to build 1,200 megawatts of nuclear power units in Pakistan. Shabaz Sharif welcomed investment from China, which Pakistan sees as its most reliable partner.

Shahbaz Sharif said in a program broadcast on Pakistan's national television that after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between China National Nuclear Corporation and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, the Chashima Nuclear power Unit 5 project will start immediately.

China's investment of up to $4.8 billion in this project sends a loud and clear message that Pakistan is a place for Chinese companies and investors to continue to show trust and confidence. "Shabazz Sharif said.

The project started in Pakistan's Punjab province, and China's support will help Pakistan wean itself off fossil fuels. In September 2017, the Chashma Nuclear Power Unit 4, which was exported and built by CNNC, was completed, and the four units of the first phase of the Chashma Nuclear Power project in Pakistan were fully completed. In November this year, CNNC signed a commercial contract with Pakistan for Chashma Nuclear Power Unit 5, which will use Hualong One technology to build a million-kilowatt nuclear power unit in Chashma.
