According to the central state-owned China Minmetals Group news, on June 26, 2023, China Minmetals Chentaigou iron ore project commencement ceremony was held in Anshan, Liaoning province. It is reported that the total investment of the project exceeds 10 billion yuan, the first phase of the design production scale of 11 million tons/year, iron concentrate output of 4.7 million tons/year, is the first ultra-deep well, ultra-large scale mining of the double super mine.

On the same day, Hao Peng, Secretary of the CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee and director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress attended and announced the start of the project. Weng Zuliang, Secretary of the Party Group and Chairman of China Minmetals, Wang Jian, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Liaoning Provincial Committee and Vice Governor of Liaoning Province attended and delivered speeches. Weng Zuliang pointed out that the construction of the project is of great significance for implementing the national strategy, promoting the high-quality development of Liaoning, and supporting China Minmetals to become stronger, better and bigger. In his speech, Wang Jian said that the Chentaigou Iron Ore project of China Minmetals is an important supporting project to maintain the security of China's iron and steel industry chain and supply chain, and is also another landmark project to deepen the cooperation between central enterprises and Liaoning, which is of great significance to improve the national iron ore strategic reserve system and ensure the sustainable development of the national economy and society. The relevant parties of Liaoning Province should make every effort to ensure the smooth implementation of the project and the early achievement of production and efficiency.

According to the natural resources Department of Liaoning Province previously disclosed news, the Chentaigou Iron mine is located in the northeast of Anshan city 11 kilometers, under the jurisdiction of Chentaigou village, Qianshan Town, Qianshan District, Anshan City. In September last year, the Mining rights Management Office of the Department of Natural Resources of Liaoning Province released news that the Department of Natural Resources of Liaoning Province, in order to fully protect the safety of mineral resources, through the coordination of the municipal and county people's governments and relevant departments to adopt the mechanism of acceptance, parallel review and joint management, issued mining licenses for two oversized new iron mines in Xianshan and Chentaigou in the shortest time.

According to the introduction at the time, the above two large new iron mines will use advanced mineral processing technology, after the completion of the iron ore production scale will reach 41 million tons/year, steadily improve the self-sufficiency rate of iron ore in Liaoning Province, and make positive contributions to ensuring the security of iron ore supply chain.

It is worth noting that as a major mining province, Liaoning Province is starting related mining projects one after another. Since 2019, the Liaoning Provincial Department of Natural Resources has fully launched the green channel to guarantee the approval of the development of strategic mineral resources such as iron ore.

According to the General Plan of Liaoning Province Mineral Resources (2021-2025) released in October 2022 (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan"), the mineral resources of Liaoning Province are mainly reflected in the characteristics of three more and two less, that is, large iron ore and magnesite and large deposits, common (associated) components of metal minerals, and poor ore; There are few large nonferrous metal deposits and few rich deposits. Iron ore, magnesite, talc ore and boron ore are the dominant minerals, among which iron ore is mainly distributed in Anshan, Benxi and Liaoyang areas.

The "Plan" pointed out that the comprehensive revitalization of Liaoning put forward new requirements for the security capacity of mineral resources. By 2025, Liaoning Province is expected to add 1 billion tons of iron ore resources. The "Plan" also specifically mentioned that in the energy resource base, national planning mining areas and key mining areas to carry out the production capacity construction project of Xianshan and other iron ore mines, encourage the integration and expansion of iron mines in the Anbanliao area, appropriately increase production capacity and smelting capacity, by 2025, strive to increase the supply of iron ore by 50%, to ensure the stability of the iron and steel industry supply chain.
