On June 28, 2023, the world's first 16 megawatt offshore wind turbine successfully completed its lifting task at the Fujian offshore wind farm and is about to enter commercial operation. The success of this project marks an important breakthrough for China's offshore wind power in terms of high-end equipment manufacturing capabilities and far-reaching offshore wind power construction capabilities, reaching an international leading level.
It is understood that the world's first ultra large capacity 16 megawatt offshore wind turbine installed this time will become the largest offshore wind turbine in operation once completed and put into operation.
The 16 MW offshore wind turbine adopts a four pile jacket wind turbine foundation, with a hub center height of 152 meters, which is equivalent to the height of a 52 story building; The combined weight of the engine room and generator set reaches 385 tons, equivalent to the weight of 190 off-road vehicles; The blade is 123 meters long and weighs 54 tons per blade. The impeller has a sweeping area of approximately 50000 square meters, which is equivalent to the size of 7 standard football fields. According to years of wind measurement data in the sea area, a single unit can output over 66 million kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually, which can meet the daily electricity needs of 36000 households for one year. It can save about 22000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 54000 tons.
The 16 megawatt offshore wind turbine unit that has been lifted will enter the tense debugging and testing phase before grid connection. In the future, it will turn offshore wind into green energy, provide momentum for the green transformation of the economy and society, and provide effective guarantees for the realization of China's dual carbon goals.
