On June 28, 2023, the Chongqing Public Resource Trading Network released a preliminary survey and design bidding announcement for the Chongqing Wushan (Hubei Chongqing boundary) to Wanzhou section of the G4223 Wuhan Chongqing Expressway. The bidding party, Chongqing Transportation Bureau, estimated the project investment amount to be approximately 37.72 billion yuan.

The project starts from the Hubei section of the project near Peishi Township, Wushan County, connecting Hubei with Chongqing, passing through Baolong Town, Guandu Town, Tonggu Town and Miaoyu Town of Wushan County, Wuma Town, Anping Town and Jiagao Town of Fengjie County, Guling Town, Baoping Town and Fengming Town of Yunyang County, Tai'an Town, Baiyang Town and Changling Town of Wanzhou District, and ends near Tangpu Village, Changling Town, Changling Town, Wanzhou District, connecting Zhongxian Wanzhou Expressway. The total length of the route is about 176 kilometers, including 22 kilometers in Wanzhou District, 47 kilometers in Yunyang County, 49 kilometers in Fengjie County, and 58 kilometers in Wushan County.

This project adopts the standard of a two-way four lane expressway with a design speed of 100km/h and a roadbed width of 26 meters. There are 53.3 kilometers/128 bridges and 69.7 kilometers/36 tunnels along the entire line, with an overall bridge tunnel ratio of about 70%; There are a total of 17 interchanges, including 5 hub interchanges, 12 general interchanges, and 4 service areas; The main control projects include: Tangpu Hub Interchange, Baoping Hub Interchange, Huanglong Hub Interchange, and Huangzao Hub Interchange; Modaoxi Extra Large Bridge, Shilanhe Extra Large Bridge, Jiupan River Extra Large Bridge, Baolong River Extra Large Bridge; Wuma Extra Long Tunnel and Chang'an Extra Long Tunnel.
