Recently, the 100 MW/200 MWh design and construction project of Huaneng Laiwu Energy Storage Power Station Phase I has achieved full capacity grid connection at Huaneng Shandong Laiwu Power Plant. The successful operation of this project marks the official operation of the world's first 100 MW level decentralized control grid independent energy storage power station, which will help improve the local power grid regulation capacity and flexibility after completion.

This project is invested and constructed by Huaneng Shandong Company, contracted by Huaneng Qingneng Institute EPC, and the company is responsible for design, construction, and commissioning. The main construction tasks of the company include facilities such as 60 battery cabins, 30 PCS booster cabins, 1 main transformer, and 1 comprehensive cabin. The power station can store 200000 kilowatt hours of electricity in one charge, which can meet the daily electricity demand of about 30000 households. It can consume about 100 million kilowatt hours of new energy annually and reduce coal consumption by about 31000 tons.

As one of the energy storage demonstration projects in Shandong Province in 2022, this project for the first time adopts the 1500 volt voltage level grid structured modular energy storage converter (PCS) independently developed by Huaneng and the National Energy Management System (EMS), which has advantages such as strong system inertia, voltage and frequency support capabilities. Through refined and intelligent management of battery energy in the energy storage system, fluctuations in new energy generation can be suppressed and the power grid regulation ability can be improved, Effectively addressing issues such as large peak valley load differences and rapid changes in the power grid, providing strong support for the safe and stable operation of the power system.

Starting from April 25, 2023 and connecting to the grid for power generation on June 27, 2023, the project construction took a total of 64 days. Faced with many unfavorable factors such as tight construction schedules and heavy tasks, the project team utilizes years of accumulated technical and management experience in the construction of energy storage power stations to scientifically plan and organize, strictly implement national standards and regulations, pay close attention to safety, quality, and schedule management, ensure high-quality and efficient performance, and fulfill the solemn promise of writing the best bid with practical actions to do a good job in the project.
