Qingyuan Pumped-storage hydroelectricity project is the largest single investment project in Qingyuan history. After preliminary design review, the project approved a total estimated investment of 8334.78 million yuan. The total installed capacity of the project is 1.2 million kilowatts. The project preparation period is 18 months, with a total construction period of 72 months. The first unit has a power generation period of 60 months, and it is expected that all units will be put into operation by 2030. After completion, the annual power generation will reach 1.449 billion kilowatt hours.

The project hub project mainly consists of an upper reservoir, a water conveyance system, an underground powerhouse system, a lower reservoir, and a ground switch station. The project area has abundant water resources and superior natural storage conditions, which can continuously operate for 9 hours. It is currently the only pumping and storage project in the province with weekly regulation performance. Among them, the Upper Reservoir is located at the source of Yangxi, a tributary of Nanyang River in Yushukeng Village, Lingtou Township, with a controlled drainage area of 4.04 hectares at the dam site; The groundwater reservoir is located on the first level tributary of Yanglou Creek, a tributary of Songyuan Creek in Huangkengwan Village, Wudabao Township. The dam site controls a drainage area of 7.08 hectares.

The average annual tax contribution during the construction and operation period of the power station is nearly 100 million yuan, which can undertake tasks such as peak shaving, valley filling, energy storage, frequency regulation, phase modulation, and emergency backup of the power system.
